12 Companies Leading The Way In Double Pushchair
Which Lightweight Double Pushchair Should You Buy?
It's easy to move around with the lightweight double pushchair particularly if you have children of varying ages. They are easy to fold, steer and carry up and down stairs.
This City Mini GT2 offers side-by-side seats with plenty of legroom, adjustable reclining and huge UPF 50+ canopies with windows that peek out. It also comes with frames that can be expanded in the width to accommodate the second car seat or an additional passenger.
Side-by-Side
Most of the lightweight double pushchairs we tried were side-by-side models. These are best for children who can sit without assistance, since they aren't as likely to have compatibility with car seats. That said they do have a few advantages. Thule Urban Glide 2 Double and Baby Trend Sit 'N Stand Double are both top choices that have adjustable recline in both seats, a huge canopy, and padded five-point harnesses. These are also easy to move around despite their larger footprint. They are great for parents who are worried about getting through doors.

The Cybex Duet is a little different due to its unique frame that expands in width to accommodate an additional seat, making it slimmer than most other side-by-side pushchairs on the market. This means it can fit through standard doorways and is easy to maneuver on public transport. It's also a jogger, which is great news for those who want to use it in conjunction with an infant carrier or car seat, and comes in a variety of exciting colors.
The UPPAbaby Vista v2 double is another fantastic side-by-side double that is lightweight. It provides even more customization thanks to a modular frame. The clever design allows you to convert it into a double or single buggy by adding two carrycots or car seats for children. It can even accommodate twins. It's an outstandingly practical choice for growing families, and the UPPAbaby also makes one of the lightest and stylish umbrella strollers available.
If you prefer a more compact and lightweight double, you can try the egg2 which folds to the size of a small suitcase. It can be used either as a double or single by adding two baby car seats or carrycots. Our home testers were amazed by how easy it was to maneuver even with a full load of kids.
Even though they are lightweight double pushchairs that sit side-by-side do not guarantee safety. If your children are of the same age and stage, they may still argue over who gets to sit in which position. If they're at different heights then a tandem style may be ideal for them as it lets them face each other.
Tandem
While side-by-side models may be more suitable for siblings of the same age, tandem lightweight double pushchairs offer their own perks. Some can accommodate a larger car seat and others come with seats that can be reversible. Some even come with an extra carrycot or a convertible seat in the middle. They are generally more spacious and easier to get in and out of, although their baskets tend to be smaller than those on single buggies. Many have larger canopies, peekaboo windows and even cushioned leg cushions.
The iCandy Peach is another example of a lightweight and affordable tandem. The fabric is a bit less luxurious than some of our top-rated doubles. But, it looks great and is easy to use. Its one-handed folding is impressive. Although it takes some time to master, Kirstie from our Lab called it "genius". The carrycot cannot be folded while it's attached. However, the process to attach and remove the carrycot is simple and quick.
Tandem strollers that are lightweight typically have tighter turning capabilities than side-byside models. However, nipper double buggy pushchairsandprams could be more difficult to navigate on uneven surfaces and curbs. They can also be slower to accelerate and heavier to move. This can put strain on your back.
Another option is a convertible double buggy which is initially one-person, but you add adapters to turn it into a double. These can include a second seat or carrycot in front, or the children can be seated side-by-side. Some may have the option of including a buggyboard, which helps an older child keep up with siblings who are younger.
The Uppababy Vista V2 is a great example of a convertible as it can also convert into a twin pram through the purchase of additional cocoons (PS59 each) which create a lay-flat space for infants. They can be placed in a row or joined to each other's faces, and you can use them with the infant car seat that comes with the pushchair (as as long as you choose a compatible one). Since they are made of high-quality materials, these kinds of buggies that are dual-use can be used for many years without displaying much wear, indicating they have the highest resale value.
Single-to-Double
Designed for outdoor-loving families who want to upgrade from a single stroller, this lightweight double buggy turns into a jogger with the help of an impressive kit that comes with air-filled tyres, as well as all-wheel suspension. It is also a good choice for twins, or children of different ages and as a triple tandem, it can handle rough terrain. It's also a good option for parents looking for an elegant design that's as sleek as a single, and comes in a variety of colors for the fabric.
This iCandy model is very easy to fold with a one-handed system. It's heavier than other single-to-double pushchairs, however our home tester Karolina says it's still very capable of maneuvering even with two toddlers inside and carrying a carrycot.
You can purchase add-ons like the Roma Gemini Carrycots (PS100) that are ideal for infants. The seats are comfortable for toddlers and come with good headrests and lumbar support. There are a variety of options for recline in the front, with the seat being able to be adjusted to different positions, and the rear seat having the option of recline.
This type of buggy has the biggest disadvantage of being a bit wider than side-byside doubles. This makes it difficult to maneuver through doorways, and it isn't easy to maneuver up and down kerbs. The wheels and suspension of these strollers are generally good at coping with surfaces that are paved. They're also lighter than many side-bysides which means you can have plenty of storage. These strollers can be difficult to maneuver through supermarkets with narrow aisles and they might struggle to carry loads. It's a little easier to turn around even on the smallest of curving paths, but it can be difficult to turn them around on a straight path. Some are more easy to turn than others models, like the Thule Urban Glide 2 Double or Baby Trend Sit N' Stand Double.
Convertible
Convertible double pushchairs are fantastic because they are able to be adapted to the changing needs of a family. They typically start as single buggies, but include adapters to add the second seat, a carrycot, or (in some cases) the car seat to the frame. Some are able to be converted to a single buggie when your child reaches the age of walk or prefers to ride buggyboards.
One of the lightest double strollers we have on our list, this sleek tri-fold model can hold children up to 40lbs each. It also has an easy-to-use basket between the seats to store things. The large canopy with a peekaboo window, multi-position reclining seats and front and back suspensions to ensure smoother rides on rough terrain were appreciated by testers at home. It also comes with a handy parent cup holder and an ample, easy-to-access basket. The backs have small pockets, which are just big enough to fit phones and keys.
This light, high-end side-byside is available in more than 20 models. It also comes with a second seat and carrycot. It has a distinctive steering handlebar, rear and front suspensions that smooth rough terrain, a compact fold that stands up on its own with straps to make it easy to transport, and seven-inch front wheels with swivel locks as well as ten-inch back wheels with suspensions to ensure more comfortable riding. The only downside is that you'll have to purchase a separate baby carriage or car seat.
This multi-functional tandem is a popular choice from our home testers due to its maneuverability and large shopping basket, which can be accessed with both seats facing the parent. Its surprisingly lightweight weight (about the same as some single pushchairs) makes it easy to maneuver. Many people praise the clever method of attaching the second seat or riding board at the back. Parents also liked the fact that it could accommodate infant carriers and car seats from multiple brands, including some which aren't usually fit in other double buggies.
